The Determiners of Behavior a t a Choice Point

چکیده
T h e question I am going to discuss is the very straightforward and specific one of “why rats turn the way they do, at a given choice-point in a given maze at a given stage of learning.” The first item in the answer is fairly obvious. They turn the way they do because they have on the preceding trials met this same choicepoint together with such and such further objects or situations, down the one path and down the other, for such and such a number of preceding trials. Let me, however, analyze this further, with the aid of a couple of diagrams. First, consider a diagram of a single choice point (Figure 1). In this figure the point of choice itself is designated as 0,; the complex of stimulus-objects met going down the left alley, as O,, that met going down the right alley, as OR; the goal at the left, as 0,; and that at the right, as OcR. The behavior of turning to the left is represented by the arrow B,; and that of turning to the right, by the arrow B E . And

A NORM INEQUALITY FOR CHEBYSHEV CENTRES
In this paper, we study the Chebyshev centres of bounded subsets of normed spaces and obtain a norm inequality for relative centres. In particular, we prove that if T is a remotal subset of an inner product space H, and F is a star-shaped set at a relative Chebyshev centre c of T with respect to F, then llx - qT (x)1I2 2 Ilx-cll2 + Ilc-qT (c) 112 x E F, where qT : F + T is any choice functi...
متن کاملThe Determiners of Temporal Lobe Epilepsy Surgery Outcome in a Developing Country
Background: Epilepsy surgery has become a successful treatment option for patients with drug-resistant epilepsies. Objectives: This study aimed to assess temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) surgery outcome and its association with epilepsy duration, the presence of pre-surgical generalized tonic-clonic seizure (GTCS), and brain MRI findings. Materials & Methods: This retrospective study was perfo...
متن کاملSuzuki-type fixed point theorems for generalized contractive mappings that characterize metric completeness
Inspired by the work of Suzuki in [T. Suzuki, A generalized Banach contraction principle that characterizes metric completeness, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc. 136 (2008), 1861--1869], we prove a fixed point theorem for contractive mappings that generalizes a theorem of Geraghty in [M.A. Geraghty, On contractive mappings, Proc. Amer. Math. Soc., 40 (1973), 604--608]an...
متن کاملLocation of Heath Care Facilities in Competitive and User Choice Environment
The location of facilities anywhere in an area in which several competing facilities already exist and serving the demand points has been brought to light in this work. Because of the great importance of health care systems in the health of the people, these systems have been studied in the present paper. Creation and maintenance of competitive advantage in health care systems requires optimizi...
متن کاملSemantic Variation and Pleonastic Determiners: The Case of the Plural Definite Generic
This paper examines the status of so-called ‘pleonastic’ determiners, focusing on the plural definite generic common in Romance languages. It is noted that every language has generic or kind-denoting terms but such terms vary between bare and definite (rather than indefinite) forms across languages. Canonical and non-canonical uses of definite determiners are distinguished and language variatio...
